Selection FAQ

Injection molding robot questions

Use these answers as a starting point. Final robot selection depends on the molding machine, mold, part and required handling sequence.

What does an injection molding robot do?

An injection molding robot removes molded parts or runners from the open mold and transfers them to a defined release point. Depending on the cell, it can also support insert loading, sorting, stacking, inspection or packing.

Should I choose a 3-axis or 5-axis injection molding robot?

A 3-axis robot suits direct take-out and transfer tasks. A 5-axis robot is considered when the part needs additional orientation or a more complex placement sequence. The choice should be checked against the actual mold and process.

What information is needed to select a robot?

Provide the injection molding machine model or tonnage, required strokes, part and runner weight, EOAT weight, target cycle, mold layout, unloading direction and downstream task. Available drawings and site constraints also help the review.

Can a robot be integrated with an existing injection molding machine?

Integration can be reviewed for an existing machine. The machine interface, available mounting and working space, mold access, guarding and required safety signals must be confirmed before a configuration is recommended.

Can KEFAN supply EOAT and downstream automation?

KEFAN can develop custom robot EOAT and application-specific handling concepts for part removal, insert loading, conveying, sorting, stacking or packing. Scope is defined from the production sequence and available cell data.
